As Kittens Step into Home, They Begin to Shine, Getting Their Wish Just in Time for New Year
As these two kittens stepped into a home, they began to shine, getting their wish just in time for the New Year.
Mustardseed and MopsaMolly
About a month ago, Molly, a volunteer for SPCA of Tompkins County, opened her home to two shelter kittens, giving them a fresh start.
The kittens, Mopsa and Mustardseed, quickly made themselves at home in their new space. Mopsa dozed off in her comfy bed while her brother, Mustardseed, strutted up to his foster mom for attention.
“Mopsa is the softest little ball of calico fluff. She likes to take things in at her own pace. Mustardseed is bigger with one less color (and a cute orange-striped tail). He has a dreamy dispositionâhe came out of the carrier purring and is a natural lap kitten.”

While Mopsa curiously explored and investigated her new surroundings, her brother happily trailed behind, eager to join in any escapade. Before long, Molly found them both making a break from the pen, dashing around the room like they owned the place.
“Mopsa is very observant and was definitely the brains behind the escape from the pen. She can often be found standing on her back legs, leaning casually against something.”

Mustardseed loved being close to his foster mom. He often rolled around her feet while Mopsa nestled peacefully in her lap. Eventually, he curled up into a ball on her feet, perfectly content and relaxed.
“He can sit on them all he wants. He plays hard and sleeps hard.”

Despite having many cozy napping spots, both kittens took a liking to the glass weighing bowl as their perch of choice.
They made weigh-ins effortless for Molly by stepping into the bowl themselves. “They really have the hang of the self-weighing station. This is a daily routine to make sure the kittens are gaining adequate weight and to track when they hit two pounds.”
Molly
“Mustardseed got off my lap to eat seconds of dinner, and Mopsa took the opportunity to stretch out and take the whole lap for herself. Mustardseed has a tendency to get a little jealous in this situation.”
Instead of wrestling his sister, he squeezed between Mopsa and his foster mom, nestling snugly against Molly’s belly to be extra close.

Mopsa was unfazed by her brother’s unbridled energy. Even when he toppled onto her while she was sleeping, she continued snoozing, purring loudly. She also took her grooming duties seriously, washing her brother’s face and cleaning her foster mom’s hand before drifting off to sleep.
“These kittens fall asleep as quickly as I do in front of the TV at night.”

When they weren’t curled up in Molly’s lap, they were off wrestling with anything they could get their paws on.
The kittens quickly reached the two-pound mark and were ready for adoption. Molly hoped they would find a loving home together before the holidays.

“When they first came to me, Mustardseed weighed significantly more than Mopsa, but through her habit of eating her own food and then moving onto his leftovers, she almost caught up to him.”
After a few weeks in foster care, the two siblings received the best news they’d been hoping for.

A loving family fell head over heels for the brother-and-sister duo and wanted to make their dream come true. The night before they set off on their new adventure, they spent plenty of quality time cuddling with their foster mom.
“It was a real snuggle-fest in my lap on their last night in our home.”

“It took them less than 24 hours to warm up and want cuddles. They are running around like crazy and napping often,” the adopter shared. Mustardseed impressed his new family by leaping through the center hole of a cat tunnel, and Mopsa charmed everyone by claiming their laps.
The kittens are enjoying their New Year with their forever family in their dream home.
