About two months ago, Meagan, the president of PuppyKittyNYCity, received an urgent request to rescue a cat who desperately needed help.

A few Good Samaritans heard the cat’s cries and found him hiding behind a carrier. Seeing him seek attention from anyone passing by, they knew they had to help. Abandoned in the park, the cat was hungry, lost, and confused.

Meagan immediately offered to take him in, giving the little guy a safe, warm place to stay and food to fill his belly.

While rescuing the cat, the finders met a young woman who had been feeding him for some time. She was relieved to know he was finally going somewhere safe.

Upon arriving at the rescue, the cat—now named Lincoln after the place he was found—”inhaled” a can of food as if it were his last. Meagan offered him seconds, which he eagerly dove into, reassuring him that he’d never go hungry again.

That night, Lincoln curled up in his new, cozy bed inside a makeshift “cave” and fell fast asleep. His belly was full, and for the first time, he felt at peace.

He was understandably nervous after being left outside and braving the streets for a few weeks, but Meagan was determined to win him over with the one thing he loved most: food.

For a while, Lincoln would growl while eating to protect his food due to food insecurity. However, as he realized Meagan was a friend and his provider, his defenses gradually softened. He couldn’t resist the tasty treats and soon began eating directly from her hand.

Despite everything, he continued to devour his meals as if there were no tomorrow.

Over the next few weeks, Meagan focused on building Lincoln’s trust. Each time she opened a can of food, he would dart out from the shadows of his “cave,” watching intently as she filled the plate.

As soon as his meal was served, he rushed over and began devouring it. Meagan seized the moment to gently pet him, easing his worries about food.

Soon, she noticed progress as Lincoln started to trust her. He allowed petting during mealtime without growling, happily took treats from her hand, and even used the litter box comfortably in her presence.

“Watching a foster cat learn to trust is one of the most rewarding experiences.”

“He has been recovering with me for weeks and is doing much better. He still has food insecurity, likely because he was abandoned outside with no way to find food. He runs to the food bowl every time he hears a can open and inhales it.”

“He needs a patient forever home who will understand that he is still learning to trust his meals will always be here.”

Lincoln explored Meagan’s office with his tail held high, then came over to offer her snuggles and kisses, thoroughly enjoying the attention.

“He is a resilient little survivor with a heart full of love. He’s been through a lot, but despite his rough start, he remains incredibly sweet and affectionate.”

“After spending many weeks with me decompressing, he made it to a foster home. He is doing so much better and has even started to play.”

Lincoln quickly settled in with his foster family and discovered his favorite toy: the feather wand. He pounced and wrestled with it with all fours, truly enjoying the good life.
