A neighbor noticed a cat lingering around an abandoned house and began caring for her. Her family had moved away, leaving her behind.

Seeing the cat waiting outside and knowing her family wasn’t coming back, the kind neighbor offered her food and made sure she was safe. Then, one day, when he came by to feed the cat, he heard what sounded like a kitten crying.

To his surprise, the cat had given birth to a litter of five out in the cold.

The neighbor contacted his local rescue, Liberation Cat House, hoping to get them somewhere safe and warm.

“The neighbor started reaching out for help, not just for her but the other forgotten kitties in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, she was not the only one left behind,” Jen Wood, a director of Liberation Cat House, shared with Love Meow. “Thank goodness he was feeding her so she didn’t have to worry about finding food for herself.”

They removed the collar from her previous family, shedding the past worries along with it. The mom and her kittens, covered in fleas, were gently cleaned and treated, giving them a fresh start.

“We got them all cleaned up and flea-free, and they are feeling much better. Mama (Valka) is getting a new beginning for her and her babies, and she is so grateful.”

Hiccup, weighing 60 grams less than his siblings, needed extra care to help him thrive. With round-the-clock support from his loving foster family, he turned a corner and started making steady gains every day.

“Mama realized she was safe the morning after she arrived. We had to do a lot of baths and treatments the night they arrived, so she was really worried about what was happening to her babies, but after a few meals and lots of treats, she is now all purrs and chirps.”

With her kittens safe and their bellies full, she purrs contentedly throughout the day.

In just three days in foster care, the kittens have gained weight and strength. Valka can now relax, knowing her little ones are safe, sheltered, and well-fed.

“The babies are all starting to become very curious and walk around a lot more. Victoria is already starting to play and likes to start wrestling matches. Frankie is a mama’s boy. He always wants to be with her.”

With the kittens growing more active, they constantly keep their mom on her toes. “She is a very good mama that focuses on her kittens. Even when she comes for pets and love, she doesn’t stay very long; she goes right back to check on them.”

They climb and tumble all over their mom like a jungle gym while she purrs happily beside them.

Thanks to the compassion of a kind neighbor, the kittens can now grow up in a safe environment filled with comfort, warmth, and good food.

Soon, they will begin exploring beyond their nest, plotting antics, and getting into all sorts of playful mischief.
