A real estate agent found a cat left behind with her kittens. Their lives turned around completely in one week.

Earlier this month, Nikki and her team at Best Friends Felines received a call about a cat family that had been left behind.

A real estate agent discovered the cat with her newborns after the tenants had moved out. The cat, named Golda, was scared and shied away from rescuers when they arrived.

“It quickly became clear that while Golda was allowing the babies to nurse, she showed no interest or clue what to do with them,” Best Friends Felines shared.

Despite their best efforts to save them all, two of the four kittens sadly didn’t make it. The remaining babies, Eli and Asher, fought like warriors, determined to live.

Their foster carers provided round-the-clock care for the kittens, ensuring they were fed and stepping in for the mother as she didn’t know what to do.

They noticed Golda had a fever from an infection and immediately began treating her. As she settled in and felt more comfortable, she showed more interest in her kittens and even rolled over for them to nurse and snuggle.

She still didn’t know how to care for them properly, but she seemed relieved to have kind humans to help her every two hours.

It took several days for her fever to subside. Once she regained strength, she became a bit fussy about having her temperature taken.

“Friday morning, we took her temperature, and it was normal. With her fever gone and feeling better, her personality is showing. She is such a sweet girl, purring, head butting, and loving all the cuddles.”

With improved health, Golda has become more responsive whenever she hears her kittens cry. “She still has no clue what to do about it and, at most, gives head rubs to them or an occasional one-off lick.”

“She’s a sweetie, and she lets them climb and sleep all over her. She has no issues letting them nurse.”

Eli, the tiny cow-patterned kitten, struggled to gain weight. “We’d help him latch and nurse from Golda every two hours and repeatedly tried to offer him a bottle, which he thoroughly refused and fought against.”

Finally, at midnight last Friday, one of his carers managed to coax him into drinking a bit of formula from a bottle. “We were overjoyed at just that.”

After a couple more attempts to bottle-feed Eli, it finally clicked. “He is now guzzling down his formula at each feeding and being bottle-fed several times a day. His weight is skyrocketing and matching Asher’s gains.”

Asher’s eyes are starting to open. He’s growing steadily and becoming more active with newfound energy.

If Golda and her kittens hadn’t been found and received the care they needed, their situation might have turned out very differently. Now, they are in a much better place, growing stronger and more vibrant every day.

The kittens will stay with their mom in their foster home until they are ready to spread their wings, and Golda will be spayed and find a forever family that will love and pamper her endlessly.
