Pouffsouff, the kitten, was born to one of the cats rescued from a yard. He was the sole survivor of his litter and had an amazing will to live.

A few months ago, while working in a neighborhood, Samuel stumbled upon a small colony of hungry, abandoned cats in a yard (some were pregnant). He provided them with food and water and couldn’t leave them to fend for themselves.

When no one came to help, he decided to handle it himself. He rented a humane trap and returned with a bag of food to secure them all.

Chatons Orphelins Montreal, a cat rescue, stepped up and arranged foster homes for several cats and their kittens. Samuel set up a space for the remaining cats while seeking help from other rescues.

One morning, a pregnant cat in his care went into labor, and Pouffsouff was the only surviving kitten from the litter.

Despite having his mother all to himself, the kitten remained small for his age. When he began showing some neurological signs, Samuel reached out to Chatons Orphelins Montreal for help.

A volunteer quickly made the trip to pick up the kitten and brought him to Montreal after a few hours on the road. “He was very underweight, weighing less than 700 grams, and you could feel his spine,” Celine of Chatons Orphelins Montreal shared.

“He had small tremors when he arrived. His foster family helped him eat as he struggled to gain weight. Even though he was fragile and behind in his development, he was determined to live.”

Twenty-four hours later, one of his pupils became dilated. “We immediately took him to the clinic. The vet found he had Horner’s syndrome (a neurological condition affecting the eye and surrounding area), an ear infection, and possibly toxoplasmosis.”

Soon after starting treatment, he began to turn a corner, and his energy levels soared. “He recovered quickly, bringing so much joy to his foster family and everyone involved in his rescue.”

Once he regained his strength, his mischievous personality emerged. He zoomed around like an energizer bunny, playfully exploring and investigating every nook and cranny.

Pouffsouff sampled fresh water from his new fountain, utterly fascinated by everything around him. He followed his people everywhere, curious to know their every move.

After a few weeks of excellent care and nourishing food, the little warrior kitty made a full recovery. “His dilated pupil has returned to normal, and his head is much less tilted. He’s now gaining weight every day.”

When Pouffsouff was introduced to other cats, he was determined to be the boss. He eagerly played with cats much bigger than him, wrestling with all his might and proving himself a true champion.

“He is not afraid of anything, not even the vacuum cleaner.”

Most cats flee at the sight of a vacuum, but not Pouffsouff. As soon as he spots the dust-hoovering machine, he chases and pounces on it like it’s his prey.

The fearless kitten shows everyone he’s a force to be reckoned with, dashing around with reckless abandon, never letting anything slow him down.

Thanks to the compassionate rescuer and volunteers, Pouffsouff and the cats from the yard have been given a second chance at life.

He’s now having the time of his life in his foster home, enjoying the holiday season surrounded by loving humans and feline friends.
