While volunteers were helping community cats in a neighborhood, they noticed a tiny orange kitten living among the adults.

He was skittish and tried to run from people, but hunger got the best of him. Two volunteers coordinated to safely snatch him from the deck, giving him a fresh start in a cozy home.

Tails High, an animal rescue, was quick to accept the kitten thanks to AP Miller, a volunteer who stepped up to foster him.

Despite being shy after the ordeal, the kitten tolerated a bath to rid him of fleas and dirt. He allowed his foster mom to wrap him in a soft towel and shower him with gentle cuddles.

“He’s a skeletal little boy at only one pound and two ounces. He’s earned the moniker Jack Skellington.”

As the kitten settled safely indoors, they thought their work was done, only to discover another kitten of the same size in the same location the next day. A tiny dilute tortie emerged from the yard, dashing towards the road.

She was scared, adjusting from life on the streets to her foster home. Wide-eyed, she soldiered through the flea bath.

“They were rescued from the same colony of cats a day apart, with only a 0.2-ounce weight difference. We feel pretty confident they’re from the same litter,” Miller shared with Love Meow.

With a clean coat, a full belly, and plenty of soft blankets to cozy up with, the tortie, Sally, was finally at ease.

When Sally was reunited with Jack, he was thrilled, following her everywhere and eagerly trying to get her to play.

Before long, the two were wrestling and sharing the same bed as if they had never been apart. Though still a bit shy around people, they found comfort in each other’s company, always sticking close together.

Like two peas in a pod, they hopped onto the couch by the window, basking in the warm sun.

“It took them a few days to feel safe in front of me, but now they know I’m the food lady and the cuddle lady. In the last two days, their appetites have exploded, which is another sign of feeling safe.”

“Jack is a playful little instigator. He is curious but cautious about new things and is obsessed with his toys. Sally is the supreme snuggler, a bit shy at first, but her walls come down as soon as she starts purring.”

“She’s surprisingly braver than her brother when it comes to the vacuum.”

“Jack loves to run off with his prized catch (a feather wand with a bell), and Sally is deeply invested in attacking the cat tunnel.”

One minute, they’re zooming around, chasing each other’s tails; the next, they’re enjoying quiet moments together. They’ve even caught the attention of the resident cats and started playing “pawsies” (the cat version of footsies) with them.

“Jack and Sally both love to snooze in the sunny windowsill, cuddle with each other or me, and eat lots of good treats.”
