Marylin, who had been helping neighborhood strays, noticed a beautiful white cat in her yard one day and thought he must belong to a family nearby.

When he returned to her property daily for food, she discovered the cat didn’t have a home to go to. One of the tomcats she had been trying to help began antagonizing the white cat, driving him away.

“The white cat didn’t fight back and left without making a fuss,” Celine of Chatons Orphelins Montreal shared.

“When winter came, all the local strays took refuge in the cat houses provided by kind neighbors except for the white cat. He tried to fight for shelter but ended up with an injured eye. Following the battle, he disappeared for a few days.”

When he finally returned, he was emaciated and still injured in one eye.

“The cat couldn’t survive outdoors as other strays didn’t accept him, so the kind lady sought help for him.”

Since all the local animal shelters were closed, Philippe, who learned about the cat’s plight, offered to help through a TNR program. It took about two weeks before they safely captured the cat using a humane trap.

Marylin set up a space in her garage for the cat, Flanagan, while contacting local rescues for assistance. Flanagan was terrified, but not an ounce of aggression could be found.

For several weeks, she tended to the cat and socialized him as best she could with lots of patience and treats. Eventually, her hard work paid off when Flanagan warmed up to touch and allowed her to pet him gently.

Chatons Orphelins Montreal responded to her plea and welcomed the cat into their care once they had an opening.

Estimated to be two years old, Flanagan was treated for fleas and parasites. “He is not deaf as some white cats can be. He learned to trust with the help of his rescuer. When he went to his foster home, he quickly came out of his shell.”

After enduring the harsh winter, Flanagan seemed relieved to be in a cozy home surrounded by caring people.

“He likes his new life as an indoor cat and appreciates having someone to look after him. He loves to be pampered and will ask for attention gently if we don’t give him enough.”

Flanagan is inquisitive, watching everything his humans do with great interest. “He is starting to have fun, playing with feathers and toys, but more than anything, he loves when we take the time to play with him.”

He has blossomed into a social, affectionate companion, eager to receive and give love.
